Privacy policy

The data controller for this site is REN Technology Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under number 13694812, based in Manchester, United Kingdom. The full registered office is on the public register at that link. Questions about your data go to contact@datealmanac.com.

There is no data protection officer. This site does not carry out large-scale or systematic monitoring and is not a public authority, so one is not required.

This site uses Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which pages are used. Google acts as a data processor for this and its own terms apply.

Through that, Google may receive:

• the pages you view on this site, and when
• an approximate location derived from your IP address, at city level or coarser
• your browser, operating system and device type
• the site or search that referred you, where the browser sends one
• only if you accept: a randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie, so repeat visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several

Until you accept, no cookie is set and no identifier is stored. Google still receives a request carrying the page address and your IP — any request to any server does — but it is marked as having no consent, sets nothing in your browser and cannot be tied to your other visits.

No name, email address, account or payment information is collected, because the site has no means of collecting any. Nothing here is used to make an automated decision about you, and there is no profiling.

• Analytics — to see which pages are used and which are not, so effort goes where readers are. Legal basis: your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) UK/EU GDPR and regulation 6 of PECR. You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing does not affect anything done before you did.
• Remembering your answer to the consent question. Legal basis: this cookie is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for — not being asked again — so PECR does not require separate consent for it.

• Your consent answer: 6 months in your own browser, after which you are asked again.
• Analytics cookies: up to 2 years in your own browser, or until you clear them.
• Analytics records held by Google: retained under this property’s Google Analytics data-retention setting, then deleted by Google automatically.

This site keeps no copy of any of it. There is no database and no server-side store, so there is nothing here to retain or to delete.

Google is the only third party that receives anything. It processes analytics data on servers in the United States and elsewhere, which means a transfer outside the UK and the EEA.

Google states that it relies on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum for those transfers, and is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension. Details are in the Google privacy resources.

The site itself is served from a content delivery network with servers in many countries, so the request for a page is handled near you. Those requests are not logged to build a profile and nothing from them is kept here.

The analytics described above set cookies in your browser. They are listed individually, with what each one does and how long it lasts, in the cookie policy.

No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set, and this site carries no ads.

• Decline analytics in the consent banner shown on your first visit. Your choice is remembered in your browser and can be changed at any time from the link in the footer of the banner.
• Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which applies to every site.
• Block cookies for this site, or use a browser that blocks trackers by default.

Nothing on this site requires cookies to work. Declining analytics does not change any date, time or figure you see.

The UK GDPR and the EU GDPR give you these rights over personal data about you:

• Access — to be told what is held and to get a copy.
• Rectification — to have anything inaccurate corrected.
• Erasure — to have it deleted.
• Restriction — to have its use paused while a question is resolved.
• Objection — to object to its use.
• Portability — to receive it in a machine-readable form.
• Withdrawing consent — at any time, by declining in the banner or clearing cookies for this site.

To exercise any of them, email contact@datealmanac.com. There is no charge and you will get an answer within one month.

One practical note, and it is in your favour: this site holds nothing about you itself. Anything to erase or export sits with Google, and clearing this site’s cookies in your browser severs the only link between you and those records.

If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you can complain to a data protection regulator. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EEA it is the authority for the country you live in. You do not have to contact us first.

Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, in the last twelve months this site has collected one category of personal information: internet or network activity — pages viewed, approximate location from IP address, browser and device, and a referring site. It is collected directly from your device, for the analytics purpose described above, and disclosed to one recipient: Google, as a service provider.

This site does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and does not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is needed to provide the site. No personal information is knowingly collected from anyone under 16, and none is sold or shared in any case.

You have the right to know what is collected, to have it deleted, to have it corrected, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these — the site works identically either way. Because nothing is sold or shared, there is no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” process to complete; declining in the banner stops the disclosure described above.

Requests go to contact@datealmanac.com, and an authorised agent may make one on your behalf.

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through this site — which would be unusual, since there is nothing here to submit — please write and it will be deleted.

The date at the top changes when the wording does. If a change materially affects what is collected or why, the consent question will be asked again rather than a previous answer being carried over.
